First we made terracotta oil lamps (think of the 10 Virgins parable). We talked about obedience & being spiritually prepared. We learned how to make wicks and added the olive oil. We discussed how Christ is the Light of the world and that by following Him we will never be lost.

The night before Easter we made Easter cookies. Each ingredient taught us about Christ's Atonement. We decided to prepare the batter by the light of our oil lamps. This created a very reverent, but also fun feeling to the activity.

When it was time to put the cookies into the oven, I told the kids we would have to leave them in the oven until the morning. Just like the disciples of Jesus were sad and had to leave Jesus' body in the closed tomb, we sealed up the outside of our oven with tape and left our cookies. I told the kids to expect a surprise tomorrow.
In the morning the oven was open and empty. Our beautiful cookies were on the counter. As we each took a bite, we noticed the inside of the cookie was hollow and empty. I reminded the kids that on Easter morning, Christ's tomb was found empty because He had risen! He lives!
These ideas were found in "A Christ-Centered Easter".
3 amazing observations:
That is so neat! I loved the ideas the book description gave. Scott and I attended a passover dinner at BYU last year around Easter time, and it was so insightful. I bet your kids loved this!
Very cool. I loved what you did for Easter. How wonderful. I bet your kids will remember it for a long time.
I really love this. You are such a great example and teacher. This will be a memmory your kids won't forget.
