I am reading a great book about parenting.
My favorite books categories are:
1. Science fantasy
2. Organizing
3. Parenting
Okay, I got off track there (this is why I need books about organizing!). Back to my parenting book. I am reading about family traditions.
What are your family's holiday traditions? I would love to have you share some in the comments section.
For Thanksgiving we take turns expressing what we are thankful for while we eat the big meal. Last year we tried "Alphabet Thanks". While everyone is eating have each person say something about life they're grateful for, in alphabetical order.
Example: Person #1 says "I'm grateful for America."
Person #2 says "I'm grateful for warm Beaches in Summer."
Other traditions are taking a Thanksgiving day walk, the children eating at the children's table, having a post-feast nap, watching Charlie Brown's Thanksgiving, letting the kids eat (or not eat) whatever they choose, and reading some trivia about the origins of Thanksgiving during the meal. A silly tradition I have is to take a picture of the turnkey after I prepare it and before it goes into the oven. I feel so proud of my efforts that I have to capture it! I do take a picture of the bird once it is cooked too. I think about how I will decorate the table for weeks. I love putting on the tablecloth and then getting the children to help with placing the dishes, glasses, and silverware.
Okay your turn. Please share some traditions that make Thanksgiving "just right" in your family.
Later I will post about the foods that make up Thanksgiving at our house.
1 amazing observations:
Andy said he always went deer hunting and the women stayed behind and cooked. I'm glad he doesn't have that tradition any longer.
