The following pictures are part of my homework assignment for my digital photography class. I am continually in awe of the beauty all around me. I feel lucky to live here.
I pass this tree several times a day and its colors are incredible.

Sometimes you just have to stop and take pictures of pretty leaves.

Autumn stream

This ugly, old, dead tree has become a comfortable mainstay on our property. Years ago when our house was being framed in, a gusty October storm hit town and claimed the top half of this tree. At that time we vowed to cut the tree down the following summer- despite it being too far from the house to fall on it. When summer rolled around and we were considering who to contact to take down the tree, our children noticed quite a bit of chirping sounds emanating from the doomed tree. Upon further inspection, we discovered that our ratty old eyesore had become a woodpecker nursery. The children begged us not to cut down the tree. We relented, with the stipulation that we would just need to cut it down earlier the next year- before any feathered friends moved in and made it home. It has been nine years now and that tree has become less of an eyesore and more of a familiar sentinel to welcome us home.
